Advanced Russian through History

I cannot recommend this book enough for upper intermediate and advanced Russian students with an interest in history.

The structured lessons and annotated texts are a fabulous way to learn some challenging political and historical vocabulary, and to become acquainted with the country's fascinating history - from the Russian perspective.

As well as 36 texts on different periods of Russian history, ranging from Kievan Rus' through to the post-Soviet era (ending with Putin coming to power in 2000, as the book was published in 2007), the book comes with a CD of related lectures, and a website of activities and exercises.

Fantastic value for money, and a brilliant course to study alone or in a group. Much of it is suitable for GCE A2 level, as the texts provide an ideal introduction to the vocabulary required for choosing a historic subject as a research topic for the A2 exam.
