This blog is aimed at providing extra reading and listening materials to GCSE, AS and A2 students of Russian, and to encourage students to explore the wealth of materials the internet has to offer. Part of the school syllabus in the UK is about doing independent research, but it can be overwhelming to search the Russian-language web, so the links on this blog will hopefully help start you off.
I hope this site will be useful for all students of Russian, regardless of whether or not you're in the UK, and whether you're following a set Russian course or teaching yourself. Very roughly speaking, GCSE covers the range from total beginners to lower intermediate level, AS is intermediate, and A2 is upper intermediate to advanced level.
If you're unfamiliar with this British school certificate:
GCE AS Level
The first year of the GCE syllabus. After this year, you have a qualification called an AS.
GCE A2 Level
After taking the AS, you can choose to carry on to take the A2 Level too.
Roughly speaking, it's equivalent to B1-B2 of the Common European Framework (CEFR), or Intermediate-Advanced levels on the UK-based Asset Language Ladder.
For more information, see the details on the Edexcel website for the GCE (AS/A2) syllabus, also referred to as A level.
The A level course (AS & A2) follows on from the GCSE: this is the UK school leaving certificate, taken at age 16 for many subjects, but can be taken at any age. It covers reading, writing, speaking and listening.
