Повести покойного Ивана Петровича Белкина (1830)
Pushkin's collection of short stories, The Tales of the Late Ivan Petrovich Belkin, are an ideal place to start if you're new to reading Russian literature. They're presented as one work, but each of the stories can be enjoyed on its own. These stories are each no longer than about 10 pages long. Click on the titles to find the texts online (although if you don't like the format search elsewhere - there are dozens of online Russian libraries where you can find the full text). They're also available in Russian with detailed notes in this brilliant edition from Bristol Classical Press.

This is around 30 pages long and is an interesting psychological story.
Капитанская дочка (1836)

This is much longer, at about 100 pages long, but may be manageable when you've got a few short stories under your belt and you're ready for a challenge!
