Russian history quiz - could you pass the EGE?

Test your knowledge of Russian history on this online quiz. It is fairly hard for non-Russians, so swot up first by following the links to some background reading from the vocabulary notes below.

Vocabulary and background reading

ЕГЭ - Единый государственный экзамен.
This is the school leaving certificate in Russia, taken after 10, 11 or 12 years in full time education. List of subjects for which students take the EGE exams.

летопись - historic chronicle. Search for "летописным упоминанием" in this article to find the date of the first mention of Moscow in the chronicles.

Древная Русь - Ancient Rus'. Also refered to as Киевская Русь или Древнерусское государство

древний - ancient

Феода́л — владелец феода - feudal lord

наместник - In the 12th–16th centuries, namestniks (more correctly knyaz namestniks, or "knyaz deputies") were in charge of local administration. A local administrative area was called uyezd (уезд).

Рядовичи- serfs of a feudal lord

Казаки/козаки =Cossacks - members of multinational militaristic communities living in Ukraine and southern Russia.. Not to be confused with with the ethnic group Kazakhs.

Тройка! - In the context of school, this is a medium score in a test. In Russian schools, students are given a mark from 5-1 (cf. A-E in English schools), where 5 is the top mark and 1 is the bottom. A Троечник is someone with average marks, and a Двоечник is someone who's struggling.
